I have spent most of my adult life working in educational support programs - first through Head Start, then TRIO Programs. Now I work with both Student Support Services and the Educational Opportunity Program. Education was the key for success in my family and I have dedicated myself to the belief that giving individuals access to education is the only way to actually cause change in our society. EOP helps individuals, families and the State of New York as a whole by better preparing New York State residents to solve the problems of New York State.

As a SUNY Plattsburgh alumna and proud staff member of EOP, I want to personally congratulate you for considering one of SUNY's best institutions and best programs. I have been involved with EOP for a number of years in many capacities. As the associate director, I now have the pleasure of recruiting and selecting each incoming class. Seeing prospective students matriculate and then graduate is a powerful experience. Each student who enters Plattsburgh as an EOP student and commences into the world with a SUNY degree joins a family of proud graduates. The EOP family has a significant impact on New York State. EOP improves the lives of individuals, families and communities. I hope you consider joining us in this exciting venture.

I came to Plattsburgh State in July, 2008 after working as a French teacher and  Dean of Students at a boarding school in Lake Placid, an English teacher in Paris, and a Counselor in an opportunity program at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Though I now live in Saranac Lake, NY, it is many years ago, and many miles from where I am now, that my own opportunity has its roots. Immigrants from Europe and Canada, sometimes not having the benefit of English as a first language, sometimes through the challenges of the Great Depression, dared to have a go at a better life. Through their own hard work, the opportunites they were presented with, and the incrementally increased quality of life expectations for subsequent generations, I have benefited. EOP provides similar access and opportunity to students from all over New York state, and it is a rewarding experience for me to work with our bright, energetic students.

My first experience with the Educational Opportunity Program was in the summer of 2008 when I served as the Program Coordinator for the EOP Summer
Institute. I started as an EOP counselor in June 2009 after receiving a M.S. in College and Agency Counseling, Student Affairs Professional Practice from SUNY Plattsburgh. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such an amazing professional team and to have the opportunity to assist our remarkable community of students. I especially enjoy helping students with time management skills and career planning. As an undergraduate and graduate student, I participated in various study abroad programs in Kenya, England, and Jamaica. I have also traveled through several areas of the U.S. as a participant of AmeriCorps NCCC.  It is a pleasure helping the students I work with now to take advantage of study abroad, student exchanges, and service to local, national or international programs.
