Spring 2003 Volume 19 - No. 2
From the Director's Desk
We have come to the end of another exciting and productive year for the program. As we do, I first wish to offer congratulations to those students who are graduating this semester. We have newly confirmed alumni who will be going on to pursue graduate degrees in computer science, social work, and education, just to name a few. Some will be entering the workplace armed with the skills, knowledge, and confidence that the college has provided for them during their tenure at this institution.
To each of our graduates, on behalf of the entire EOP staff, I wish you much success in all your future endeavors. Your recent and continued achievements are what make this program such a vital part of our college and SUNY. Continue to take advantage of the opportunities that will assist you in achieving the career and lifelong goals you have set for yourself, and keep in touch.
Thanks to our students who have assisted in our efforts to provide exemplary service to the newest EOP undergraduates as peer mentors for our first-year and incoming transfer students; to those who have served as tutors in our peer tutoring program; and to those who have written letters and visited their local legislators during this spring's effort to restore EOP funding in the 2003-2004 state budget (see article on page five). Thanks as well to all those who have highlighted the importance and effectiveness of the program in your continued academic achievements. We completed the fall 2002 semester with 89% of EOP students earning cumulative grade point averages of 2.0 or better. Nineteen percent (19%) of you earned cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better. All your efforts have been most appreciated and noteworthy. Keep up the good work!
To all I wish a blessed, safe, and restful summer. I now look forward to an exciting 2003 Pre-Freshman Summer Program and to working with our returning and newest students in the fall.
