Other SUNY Plattsburgh Data

Alumni Satisfaction Survey

First administered in 1999 (in conjunction with SUNY) to college undergraduate alumni from the 1991 and 1994 graduating classes. It provides data on student perceived satisfaction with specific Plattsburgh State services when they were enrolled. The next administration will be during the summer 2004 timeframe (unless SUNY decides to administer earlier).

Cultural Environmental, Structural, and Technical Assistance (C.E.S.T.A.)

Administered (in conjunction with the Middle States accreditation process) in December 2000. It provides data on Plattsburgh State employees' perceptions of the college culture in several areas on a variety of topics.

Higher Education Research Institute Faculty Survey (HERI)

Administered in Spring 2002 semester (in conjunction with SUNY). The survey profiles faculty attitudes, values, priorities, pedagogy, and professional accomplishments.

Student Opinion Survey (SOS)

Systems Administration and ACT have coordinated the SUNY implementation of the SOS every three years since the mid-1980's. The SOS is designed to measure what students perceive (not why) on the following topics:

The last SOS was administered in Spring 2006. Copies of the final report are available from the Office of Institutional Research.

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

Plattsburgh State University of New York participated in the National Survey for Student Engagement (NSSE) during the spring 2004 semester. NSSE was administered by Indiana University's Center for Postsecondary Research and Planning.

It is the first national survey to determine what colleges and universities contribute to student undergraduate learning.  The survey has the potential to actually make a difference in the quality of undergraduate education at Plattsburgh State and elsewhere because it asks the kinds of benchmarking questions that matter to student learning and institutional effectiveness.

These benchmarks are: the level of academic challenge; active and collaborative learning; student-faculty interactions; enriching educational experiences; and supportive campus environments.  The survey focuses on what students do and what they say about their undergraduate experience.

The survey was sent to a select sample of 2100 Plattsburgh State freshmen and seniors registered for the fall 2003 semester through their campus e-mail addresses. The surveys were sent starting in early February with follow-up requests to non-respondents until late May. A personalized student identification code was provided, allowing each student to complete the survey just once. The survey took less than 15 minutes to complete via the web.  All individual data is strictly confidential.

NSSE is supported by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts to help college and universities improve undergraduate education. Additional information about NSSE is available at http://www.indiana.edu/~nsse, or by contacting the Office of Institutional Research at Plattsburgh State, (518) 564-4106.

A NSSE report developed by the vendor should be available in late August or early September 2004.  When the information arrives it will be distributed throughout the campus.
