Holiday Information for SUNY Plattsburgh Professional & Classified Employees

2009 Academic Year

September

LABOR DAY - Monday, September 7, 2009. Official State Holiday

Classes will be in session therefore, offices will remain open. Supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees may be required to work to conduct necessary business.

October

COLUMBUS DAY (Observed) - Monday, October 12, 2009. Official State Holiday

Classes will not be in session. Administrative offices will remain closed, in accordance with college policy.

November

ELECTION DAY (Floating) - Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Official State Holiday

Classes will be in session therefore, offices will remain open. Supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees may be required to work to conduct necessary business.

  • CSEA, PEF, UUP and M/C employees: this has been designated as a floating holiday.
  • CSEA, PEF, and M/C classified employees: add this floating holiday to their timesheet, and this holiday will need to be used no later than November 2, 2010 or it will be lost.
  • M/C professional employees: a floating holiday will be added with November accruals. For C-82, and NYSCOPBA employees, this is a regular state holiday and since classes are in session, supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees are required to work to conduct business. *

VETERAN's DAY - Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Official State Holiday

Classes will be in session therefore, offices will remain open.  Supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees may be required to work to conduct necessary business.

THANKSGIVING (Day Before) - Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Liberal Leave Encouraged

Classes will not be in session.  The College has adopted a policy encouraging liberal leave on this day.

THANKSGIVING DAY - Thursday, November 26, 2009. Official State Holiday

The College will be closed with the exception of those employees required to maintain essential services in the Heating Plant and University Police.

THANKSGIVING (Day After) - Friday, November 27, 2009. Liberal Leave Encouraged
 

Classes will not be in session. The College has adopted a policy encouraging liberal leave on this day. For UUP Professional employees, the President has designated a floating holiday (Election Day - November 3, 2009) to be used in exchange for this day off. All other employees are encouraged to take the day off and charge appropriate accruals (vacation, personal or compensatory time). If an employee wishes to work, they should speak with their supervisor, who will in turn contact Human Resources to determine a work location.

December

CHRISTMAS EVE - Thursday, December 24, 2009.Liberal Leave Encouraged

Classes will not be in session. The College has adopted a policy encouraging liberal leave on this day.

CHRISTMAS DAY - Friday, December 25, 2009. Official State Holiday

The College will be closed with the exception of those employees required to maintain essential services in the Heating Plant and University Police.

GENERAL HOLIDAY PERIOD - Friday, December 25 through Thursday December 31, 2009. Liberal Leave Encouraged

Classes will not be in session. The College has adopted a policy encouraging liberal leave on these days.

2010 Academic Year

January

NEW YEARS DAY - Friday, January 1, 2010. Official State Holiday

This is an official state holiday. The College will be closed with the exception of those employees required to maintain essential services in the Heating Plant and University Police.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY - Monday, January 18, 2010. Official State Holiday

This is an official state holiday. Classes will not be in session. Administrative offices will remain closed in accordance with college policy.

February

LINCOLN's BIRTHDAY (Floating) - Friday, February 12, 2010.

  • CSEA, PEF, UUP and M/C employees: this has been designated as a floating holiday.
  • CSEA, PEF, and M/C classified employees: add this floating holiday to their timesheet, and this holiday will need to be used no later than February 11, 2011 or it will be lost.
  • M/C professional employees: a floating holiday will be added with February accruals.
  • C-82 and NYSCOPBA employees: this is a regular state holiday and since classes are in session, supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees are required to work to conduct business. 

WASHINGTON's BIRTHDAY (Observed) - Monday, February 15. Official State Holiday

Classes will be in session; therefore, offices will remain open.  Supervisory discretion should be used to determine which employees may be required to work to conduct necessary business.

May

MEMORIAL DAY (Observed) - Monday, May 31, 2010. Official State Holiday

Classes will not be in session and the College will be closed with the exception of those employees required to maintain essential services in the Heating Plant and University Police.

July

INDEPENDENCE DAY - Sunday, July 4, 2010. Official State Holiday

Classes will not be in session and the College will be closed with the exception of those employees required to maintain essential services in the Heating Plant and University Police.
