What We Do
The Office of the Facilities, Maintenance and Operations Department of SUNY Plattsburgh is located on Sanborn Avenue. The department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all existing College facilities. These facilities include 41 buildings containing 2,078,785 square feet situated on a 265 acre campus; 2.1 miles of roadways, 9 miles of sidewalks, 536,895 square feet of parking lots, 3 miles of trails and 20 acres of athletic fields.
Services Provided
The following is a list of services provided by the Facilities Office and their respective descriptions.
Facilities, Design and Construction
Planning and coordination of construction and rehabilitation projects on campus.
Use of Facilities
Non-College organizations or agencies channel requests for college facilities through the Office of Facilities, Maintenance and Operations at (518) 564-5037. Facilities Planning will, in turn, make all necessary arrangements for approved uses. Charges will be levied for use of College facilities based on program requirements.
Inventory Control/Physical Space Inventory
Maintains current inventory of equipment located on campus as well as physical space inventory of all rooms on campus.
Janitorial Services
Janitorial services for academic and administrative building on campus. Services are performed when spaces are unoccupied in order to minimize interference with academic and residential activities. Special event coverage is scheduled on an as needed basis. Routine janitorial services such as washing and waxing floors, cleaning carpet, dusting, replacing lights and trash removal.
Grounds
Routine maintenance of trees, shrubbery, laws, sidewalks, streets and parking lots as well as snow removal and ice control.
Mail Center
Process all campus outgoing mail and inter-office mail for faculty, and staff.
Moving Request
Moving of furniture and equipment should be approved and co-ordinated through the appropriate Dean or administrator, who in turn routes the written requests to the Facilities, Maintenance and Operations Office. All special requests should be given as much advance notice as possible.
Work Orders
All emergencies should be called directly to the Facilities, Maintenance and Operations office at 5044/5019/5033 between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday and 5030 between 4:30 PM and 7:00 AM Monday through Friday and 5030 on weekends and holidays, giving pertinent information as to the emergency and specific location of the problem. The service is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
A work order should be submitted electronically for interior and exterior repairs to buildings including painting, electrical, plumbing, upholstery services, etc.
Environmental Health and Safety
Maintenance of a safe environment for the campus community through safety training and inspection, hazard prevent and control and emergency response services. Services provided are code enforcement, chemical information, chemical disposal, medical waste disposal, recycling (paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, ink cartridges and batteries.
Central Heating Plant
Operating and maintaining underground utilities and utilities within buildings. Suppling heat, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation and refrigeration services. Maintain the ice arena and the swimming pool. Monitor and supervise the fire alarm system.
Transportation
Coordination of campus transportation services for faculty, staff and students. Campus garage maintains all fleet vehicles including vehicles used for the maintenance and janitorial services.
Warehouse
Operation of campus warehouse.
