North Country Institute for Writers of Color - Paden Institute
The Paden Institute and Cottage
Founded by Alice Green and Charles Touhey in 1997, the Paden Institute's mission is to provide writers of color with a peaceful place to write within a tranquil and beautiful natural setting. The Institute invites writers of color, writing in all genres, to submit applications to stay at its cottage in Essex, New York. The cottage is available all summer, with no restrictions on the length of stay. Since its inception in 1997, the cottage has hosted more than a dozen writers, many going on to publish work written there.
The fully furnished cottage has one bedroom with two beds, a small living room, kitchen, an enclosed porch, bathroom and a reading nook. It is within walking distance of Lake Champlain and the town of Essex.
