SUNY Plattsburgh Makes List of Top Colleges Again
11:16am EDT, 13 Sep 2012
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2012) – For the fifth year in a row, SUNY Plattsburgh has been ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s best colleges.
The college tied with Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, coming in 26th among public regional universities in the North. In addition, the college tied with both Slippery Rock and Rosemont College in Pennsylvania for the 91st position among all regional universities (both public and private) in the North.
The rankings were announced in the 2013 edition of “America’s Best Colleges,” released yesterday. They are based on the assessment of administrators at peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
“These rankings only affirm what we already know,” said SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling. “Our faculty and staff continue to do what is right with our students, as evidenced by our strong performance earlier this year with our accreditation body, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; our high enrollments; and the results of the International Student Barometer, which showed us to be at the top of the charts among international students on many fronts.”
The ISB, the largest survey of international students, ranked the college No. 1 out of the 18 participating colleges and universities in the United States and No. 2 out of 208 in the world for overall satisfaction. It also ranked SUNY Plattsburgh No. 1 in both the United States and the world in several other categories including learning support and feedback and the ability to make friends upon arrival.
SUNY Plattsburgh is one of many State University of New York schools to be ranked among the best, something that SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher noted.
“We are delighted to see so many SUNY schools ranked among the nation’s ‘Best Colleges’ by U.S. News & World Report again this year,” Zimpher said. “In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and our public colleges have worked very hard to provide an education of the highest quality that is both affordable and accessible. Today’s rankings are a testament to our success and to the outstanding quality of our campuses throughout New York state.”
