Graduate Program in Speech-Language Pathology Earns Re-Accreditation

09:55am EDT, 5 Sep 2012

PLATTSBURGH (Sept. 5, 2012) — The speech-language pathology graduate program at SUNY Plattsburgh has received re-accreditation for another eight years by the Council on Academic Accreditation.

The CAA voted in July to grant re-accreditation after a site visit “found the program to be in compliance with the standards for accreditation of graduate education programs in audiology and speech-language pathology,” the action report said. There were no areas of non-compliance. Partial compliance discoveries, such as a clinic sign-in sheet asking for full names — in violation of privacy acts — were remedied immediately during the site visit.

“The CAA assessed the program’s performance with respect to student achievement and found the program to meet or exceed the established CAA expectations” in program completion rates, employment rates and examination rates, the council reported.

“Achieving re-accreditation is vital to our graduate program in speech-language pathology in that, without it, students would not be able to receive the certificate of clinical competence, which is the national certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association,” said Dr. Raymond Domenico, professor and chair of communication disorders and sciences. “Having been awarded the full eight-year re-accreditation is a testimony to the quality of the program and ensures that high quality prospective students will continue to apply here, knowing that our program meets ASHA’s rigorous standards.”
