Commencement Ceremonies to Be Streamed Live
11:16am EDT, 15 May 2013
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 15, 2013) — Those unable to attend SUNY Plattsburgh’s spring commencement ceremonies will now be able to view them live via the Internet.
Both the 9 a.m. ceremony for graduates in the School of Business and Economics and the Division of Education, Health and Human Services and the 2 p.m. ceremony for those in the Division of Arts and Science may be viewed at http://www.nsnsports.net/plattsburgh.
The live broadcast through Northeast Sports Network will prove especially beneficial to international students whose families often cannot afford to make the trip to Plattsburgh, according to Jackie Vogl, assistant vice president for global education.
“Often, these families have invested a great deal of time, support and effort into the success of their students, yet they have no way of joining the celebration. This service will provide that to them.”
Both ceremonies will take place in the college’s Field House and will feature student speaker Emma Puglisi discussing the value of a degree in business terms. Cheryl Hogle and Bill Laundry will also take to the stage, as they are honored with the Distinguished Service Award.
As a student, Hogle was the college’s first female president of the Student Association. She went on to become its associate dean of students and later the executive director of SUNY Plattsburgh’s College Auxiliary Services. She also earned national recognition as the first female president of the Omicron Delta Kappa, the national honor society.
Laundry served as housing director and later vice president of student affairs at the college, where he worked for more than 40 years. He has served on many campus and community committees and is a recent recipient of the key to the City of Plattsburgh.
