(May 10, 2012) – The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced SUNY Plattsburgh baseball head coach Kris Doorey as the recipient of the 2012 Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year. In addition to Doorey’s honor, Pat Shaughnessy and Mike Mulvihill have been named to the SUNYAC Baseball All-Conference Second Team.

This year’s award marks the third time Doorey has been recognized by the conference. With Doorey at the helm, the Cardinals returned to the SUNYAC Tournament as the fourth-seed after missing postseason play in 2011. Doorey led Plattsburgh to a 22-17 record.

Doorey helped resurrect the Cardinal baseball program in 2002 after the program’s 26-year hiatus at the College. Plattsburgh has advanced to the postseason nine times and produced 35 All-SUNYAC selections and 18 all-region picks under Doorey’s leadership.

Shaughnessy receives his third-straight all-conference nod with a .287 batting average and 20 RBI in 38 games. The Plattsburgh native finished the season tied for the team lead with 26 runs scored and led the Cardinals with 17 stolen bases. He also drew 23 walks on the year – ten more than any other Plattsburgh player. All-SUNYAC honors cap off an outstanding career for the Plattsburgh senior. Shaughnessy, who was also a four-year member of the Cardinal men’s soccer team, is the all-time home run leader with 11 and is among the top ten in 12 statistical categories.

Mulvihill earn All-SUNYAC honors in his first season with the Cardinals. The junior out of Greenlawn, N.Y. led the Cardinals with a .327 batting average and a .469 slugging percentage. Mulvihill finished the season with a team best two home runs and 10 doubles. Serving as the Cardinals’ designated hitter, he was second on the team with 37 hits, 25 RBI, and 53 total bases.
