Our Mission

In support of the Plattsburgh State Mission, the LIS Division's Instruction Services Unit works with faculty and staff to enable all members of the college community to achieve information literacy.

Information Literacy is defined as a group of critical thinking skills which consist of individuals' abilities to identify when they have an information need and to use technology and research skills to access, evaluate, and use information effectively.

The Instruction Services Unit faculty and staff lead in the development and assessment of campus information literacy courses, workshops, and course-related instruction sessions. The unit coordinates the teaching of information literacy courses by librarians involved in the LIS instruction program. The instruction program supports students, faculty and staff in their academic endeavors and lifelong learning pursuits by helping them to meet their changing and ongoing information needs.
