LIB 102/105 Proficiency Exam
What it is:
The LIB 102/105 Proficiency Exam is an online proctored exam, offered in Fall and Spring semesters during advising, and in the Summer during transfer student orientation. By passing the proficiency exam you meet the Information and Technology Literacy General Education requirement, but do not receive the credit hour.
Exam dates for Fall 2008:
Wednesday October 29th, 12 noon
Thursday October 30th, 12:30 & 6pm
Friday October 31st, 12 noon
The Exam is held in Feinberg Library room 108. Please remember to bring a picture ID.
Exam at Adirondack Community College
Wednesday, October 22nd, 4-6pm
Scoville Room 325
No registration necessary for the ACC Exam
Exam Registration:
Registration for the Fall 2008 Proficiency Exam will be available in the fall.
Who is eligible:
Anyone who has never received ANY grade for LIB101, LIB102, or LIB105 is eligible to proficiency out of the LIB105 course by passing the LIB105 Proficiency Exam. To clarify, you are not eligible to take the Proficiency Exam if you already have a W or a grade for another library course on your transcript.
Summer exams are open to all eligible Plattsburgh students, not limited to new students and transfers.
A student may take the LIB105 Proficiency Exam only once.
How to Prepare:
You are prepared for the exam if you've done a lot of research in the Feinberg Library, using print and electronic sources, or if you've done significant research at comparable university libraries and are also familiar with Feinberg's specific resources and services. The exam also covers basic concepts and skills in adademic computing and software commonly used by students at Plattsburgh State University.
You can also prepare by reading the library text Information Literacy & Technology, 3rd Edition by Carla J. List. The text is on reserve at the library's 2nd floor circulation desk.
