Requesting a Course-Related Library Session for Your Class

Feinberg librarians offer an instruction service tailored to meet individual course needs. Faculty members may schedule their classes to receive information research instruction from a librarian.

These sessions enhance the students' ability to use library resources for specific course assignments. Feinberg Library provides hands-on library and information skills sessions and online research guides customized for your students' needs.

What Do I Need to Do?

Due Date: Get your requests in two (2) weeks before your preferred class date, so that the service coordinator can arrange for a librarian and schedule a room.

We encourage you to schedule an instruction session at a time when the students will be able to immediately apply the information they have learned--close to the due date for an assignment rather than at the beginning of the semester. You certainly may request another follow-up session for later in the semester as well.

You may request a course-related instruction session for any day or time during the fall semester. We require a two-week minimum lead-time to schedule a session (e.g., a class for which we receive a request on July 10 could be taught on or after July 24).

We also ask that you send a copy of your assignment along with the request for instruction. This assists us in tailoring the instruction to more specific information sources and electronic databases.

Pedagogically, we have observed that sessions with the instructor present are more successful. Your participation in an instruction session is expected, welcome, and tells your students it is important.
