SHELTER IN PLACE, EXCEPT DURING A FIRE
Sheltering in Place: Remain Inside Buildings
- All occupants should seek shelter or remain inside buildings when an emergency arises or notified by authorized personnel (i.e., University Police, NY Alert, Residence Life staff, etc.).
- Evacuate the building in most circumstances, unless notified to remain by authorized personnel.
- When sheltering inside a building, seek interior rooms with no windows and doors that can be locked from the inside, if possible.
- Alert other people to shelter inside the building in a safe location.
- During severe weather, seek safe locations inside a building (basements, reinforced structures, etc.).
- Listen for instructions. If notified, follow instructions to Shelter in Place.
- Do Not leave the safe location in the building unless notified by authorized personnel.
- Keep streets, fire lanes, hydrant areas and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and personnel.
