Student Teaching Dates and Deadlines

January

2nd Deadline: Prospective Spring 2009 Student Teacher Candidates submission of required forms (i.e. Medical & Housing forms)
12th [Week of] required seminar with your College Field Supervisor (You will be required to attend your supervisor's orientation seminar.  In addition, you are  required to attend in-service/superintendent's days prior to starting date.  Please check with your supervisor & PDE.)
20th 3rd Quarter Student Teaching begins

February

2nd  [Week of] Student Teaching Application Seminars for Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 begin
9th [Week of] Student Teaching Application Seminars for Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 begin for ACC
16th [Week of] PDEs' Mid-Quarter Evaluations Due
25th Deadline: Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 Student Teaching Application and Fee Payment (All candidates must pay an application fee at the Bursar's Office)

March

2nd  [Week of] Letters of Introduction sent to 4th quarter PDEs and Building Principals
14th Deadline: Fall 2009 Student Teaching candidates' submission of Résumé, Cover Letter, Certification Checklist, etc. due
12th [End of School Day] 3rd Quarter Student Teaching Ends
13th  Transition Day
16th  Week of] PDE's 3rd Quarter Final Evaluation Due
16th  4th Quarter of Student Teaching begins

April

13th [Week of] PDEs' 4th Quarter  Mid-Quarter Evaluations Due
15th Deadline: Spring 2010 Student Teaching candidates' submission of Résumé, Cover Letter, Certification Checklist, etc. due

May

12th  Fall 2009 Placements  (Packets distributed containing mandatory forms).  Completed Fall 2009 Teaching Forms due before September 1st
4th [Week of] PDE's 4th Quarter Final Evaluation Due
14th 4th Quarter of Student Teaching ends
16th May 2009 Graduation
19th College Field Supervisors' Final Evaluations Due in Office of Field Experience

Important Reminders:


1. Remember to take all required sections of the NYSTCE exam for your certification area.
2. Complete all course requirements prior to student teaching.
3. Go online to read the "Student Teaching Handbook " and carefully review all "Zero Tolerance Behaviors" found in the student teaching handbooks.
4. Pick up your student teaching packets as soon as they become available.
5. Contact your assigned College Field Supervisor, building principal, and PDE one week after you receive your packet.
6. Complete and submit all required forms prior to the deadline dates provided.
7. Anticipate attending regular seminar sessions hosted by your College Field Supervisor during your student teaching semester.
8. Additional expenses related to student teaching (e.g., professional attire, travel, housing) will be incurred during student teaching. Please budget accordingly!
