LIB105 Proficiency Exam Information at the Branch Campus

Branch Campus Students Only!

What It Is

The LIB105 Proficiency Exam is a proctored exam, administered utilizing Angel.  By passing the proficiency exam you meet the Information and Technology Literacy General Education requirement, but do not receive the credit hour.

If you are not a Branch Campus student, please see library information .

Exam Date and Location (Branch Campus Students Only Please): Thursday, October 22nd.

The Exam will be held in the Regional Higher Education Center, Room 147 at 4pm. Please remember to bring your Plattsburgh at ACC picture ID. Also, please be sure that you know how to log into ACC campus computers as well as your Plattsburgh NetID and password. If you do not know how to do this, please check with Michelle in our office.

Exam Registration:

You must register for the LIB105 exam by Friday, October 16th.

Who Is Eligible:

Anyone who has never received ANY grade for LIB101, LIB102, or LIB105 is eligible to proficiency out of the LIB105 course by passing the LIB105 Proficiency Exam. To clarify, you are not eligible to take the Proficiency Exam if you already have a W or a grade for another library course on your transcript.

A student may take the LIB105 Proficiency Exam only once.

How to Prepare:

You are prepared for the exam if you've done a lot of research in the Feinberg Library, using print and electronic sources, or if you've done significant research at comparable university libraries and are also familiar with Feinberg's specific resources and services. The exam also covers basic concepts and skills in academic computing and software commonly used by students at Plattsburgh State University.

You can also prepare by reading the library text Information Literacy & Technology by Carla J. List. The text is available at the ACC Library. The fourth edition (2008) is on reserve at the ACC Library's Circulation Desk for in-library use. You may borrow one of the copies of the third edition (Circulating Collection ZA 3075 .L58 2005) to take home.

How do I know if I passed? :

Students will know immediately after finishing the 50 question multiple choice exam whether they have passed. If they pass they have fulfilled the LIB General Education requirement.

Remember:

You can only take the exam once. If you have received a grade for LIB101, 102 or 105, including a "W" then you are not eligible to take the exam. If you do not pass the exam you will need to sign up for a section of either the LIB102 or LIB105 course.

Do Not Register Until Exam Dates Have Been Announced, Please.
