Principal and Teacher Leadership Development

A SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury & WSWHE BOCES Collaborative

The Principals as Instructional Leaders Seminar Series and Teacher Leader Seminar Series are designed to serve regional school districts needs for instructional leadership development to best meet the Regents Reform Agenda (i.e., Common Core Learning Standards, Clinically Rich Teacher and Leader Preparation, Evidence Based Observation and Data-Driven Instruction).

SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury, Lead Principals, Network Team Members, Superintendents and guest speakers from the state, local and higher education levels will present and provide high quality professional development to instructional leaders.  Sessions will be held each month throughout the 2013-2014 school year starting in October, 2013 and ending in May, 2014. Leadership seminar series are designed to provide an interactive, supportive environment where administrators and teachers can widen their network, increase their knowledge, and improve their skills. Participants will leave each session of the program with resources that can be used in their daily practice.

There are four group research projects, aligned with the Regents Reform Agenda, which provide the opportunity for principal leaders to work collaboratively across districts on a practice relevant to their work as instructional leaders. Group projects will be shared in a colloquium scheduled for June, 2014.

Research is also being conducted on the effects of providing the series of training seminars on instructional leadership to best inform future professional development programs for aspiring and practicing school building leaders, and to highlight the importance of P-12 and higher education partnerships in the field of education leadership.
