Who Should Apply?
The program is intended for students who are holding or who will hold an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts by the time they begin. Students will be admitted to SUNY Plattsburgh at the junior-year level, and attendance may be on a full-time or part-time basis. Enrollments will be limited and students must maintain a Liberal Arts GPA of at least 2.5 in order to be eligible to take the Professional Education courses.
What Degree Will I Receive?
Sutdents will earn a SUNY Plattsburgh Bachelor of Science Degree in Childhood Education (Grades1-6).
Where Will the Courses Be Held?
All SUNY-Plattsburgh courses will be held on the campus of Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, NY.
When Should I Apply?
The Childhood Education degree program begins in the fall semester only. It is recommended that candidates apply for admission by early March.

Notes: A minimum GPA of 2.5 in non-education courses is required in order to be admitted to the program.
In addition to fulfilling all degree requirements, students must also pass the three New York State Teacher Certification Exams by the end of the education program. Completion of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) is recommended by the first semester of the junior year. Completion of the Elementary Assessment of Teaching Skills: Written (ATS-W) is recommended by the second semester of the junior year. Completion of the Multi-Subject CST is recommended by the first semester of the senior year.
Students admitted to the program who have not completed all general education and prerequisite courses may not be able to complete this program in four semesters. Students entering this program must complete the SUNY Plattsburgh General Education (GE4) requirements, a 30-32 credit hour concentration in one of the following liberal arts areas: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English, French, Mathematics, Music, Social Studies or Spanish, and all SUNY Plattsburgh degree requirements. The liberal arts concentrations generally require at least 9 credits of upper-division course work. Candidates who enter the program with the appropriate courses may declare a concentration in any of the registered liberal arts areas. Students who do not have the upper division requirements completed at the time of admission will be able to complete only the social studies concentration through the Extension Center Program.
