Non-Credit Lifeguard/Waterfront Training
Successful completion of all components of the course (Lifeguarding/Waterfront/First Aid & CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer) will allow a student to apply for any lifeguard position in a pool or waterfront.

Fall 2008 Lifeguard Training Course (Open to the public)

Sundays (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
No Classes October 12
Classes may not be held during high school fall break- discussed first class - Register by: September 12
Spring 2009 Lifeguard Training Course (Open to the public)
Section 2
- Dates of Course:
February 1 - March 8 Sundays ( 10 am - 5) & Wednesdays ( 7:00 - 9:30 pm)
No Classes High School Winter Break (February 15 & 18) - Register by: January 30
Section 3
- Dates of Course:
April 1 - May 6 Sundays ( 10 am - 5) & Wednesdays ( 7:00 - 9:30 pm )
No class Easter Sunday April 12. Classes may not be held during high School break- discussed first class - Register by: March 30
General Information
- Passing all course requirements will certify the student in
Lifeguarding/Waterfront/First Aid (3 year certification)
CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED (1 year certification) - Who May Enroll? Must be 15 years of age and is open to the public
- Cost: $175.00 (Includes course fees and materials)
- Attendance Policy: To qualify for certification, students must attend all classes. NO ABSENCES
Pre-Requisites
- Participants must pass swim test given first class period
- 550 yards (200 front crawl with rhythmic breathing, 200 breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence, 150 either front crawl or breaststroke
- 20 yard swim, surface dive to retrieve a 10# brick from depth of 7-10 feet and swim back(1 minute 40 seconds)
- Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water; resurface and swim 5 yards to side of the pool.

- Enrollments will be accepted Monday - Friday (8:30 a.m. - noon and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.)
- Checks must be made payable to: Plattsburgh State.
- Mail enrollment form and registration fee to Department of Sport and Wellness, 101 Broad Street, Plattsburgh State, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
- Enrollments will be accepted on a first-come-first-enrolled basis.
- You will only be contacted if we are unable to enroll the student.
Refund Policy
Anyone who enrolls and does not pass the preliminary swim test will be given a full refund of college fees minus a $15.00 processing charge. Once enrolled there will be absolutely no refund of the Plattsburgh State or Red Cross fees.
