New Sports Club Approval Process
Make an appointment with Recreational Sports Coordinator (Mrs. Bardon, 314 Memorial Hall, Tel: 518-564-4150) to discuss feasibility of a new club in terms of facilities, purpose, cost and risk factors.
- A sports club can be formed to meet a need and interest of a group of students in a particular sport area not already met through the intercollegiate program.
- A sports club is a student-lead club whereby members accept the responsibility for the majority of the organization and training and some of the financial costs of the club.
- The Recreational Sports Coordinator will be the advisor as well as supervisor of all sports clubs.
Development of proposal in coordination with Recreational Sports Coordinator that covers the following:
- Club purpose (competitive, recreational, instructional)
- Club organizational structure & student leadership positions
- Minimum/maximum membership numbers
- Long range viability
- Long range student leadership
- Rules and regulations
- Safety regulations
- Equipment requirements (What members are excepted to supply and what is expected to be budgeted from the Student Association sports club account).
- Facility needs and availability
- Development of financial plan
- Availability of opponents within a 300 mile radius, if competitive
- Length of season
Once the proposal has the primary approval of the Recreational Sports Coordinator, an information/interest meeting will be scheduled.
If student interest is demonstrated at the informational meeting, the Department of Sport and Wellness will review the club's proposal for approval.
The Student Association will be notified of approval of the club under the sports club umbrella.
- Advisor forms and all appropriate paperwork will be completed and submitted to Recreational Sports Coordinator.
