All SUNY Plattsburgh alumni are invited to help prepare the next generation of graduates for career success through Cardinal Networking Nights.
Three events are planned for early in the new year: Jan. 9 in Albany, N.Y.; Jan. 23 in New York City; and Jan. 30 in Plattsburgh. They are designed for alumni to discuss careers, internships, job searches and life after college with students.
“Plattsburgh students have a strong interest in connecting with alumni,” said Tracey Cross-Baker, director of the college’s Career Development Center. “They want to know more about how their education will prepare them for the real world.”
Each Networking Night will feature a 6 p.m. alumni career panel followed by a 7 p.m. networking social. Panelists will represent a variety of professions, including law, finance, sales and marketing — and class years from the 1970s through the ’00s.
“Alumni who meet students at a Networking Night may share tips or career stories. They may even identify future employees,” said Joanne Nelson, director of alumni relations.
Cross-Baker said she hopes students gain confidence in their career search skills at the events, as they learn how alumni have established themselves professionally.
Both Cross-Baker and Nelson also anticipate that students will come to see that the SUNY Plattsburgh community extends well beyond the perimeter of the campus.
“These events will be a resource for them for years to come,” Cross-Baker said. “It’s truly a win-win situation.”
