Hi! My name is Kaila Sciascia and I am an Admissions Assistant at SUNY Plattsburgh. I help and assist the Advisors in the office in all areas of the admissions process. I also meet with prospective students, review freshman applications and recruit primarily in the Long Island region. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about SUNY Plattsburgh - I am happy to help!
Hometown: East Northport, NY
Professional/Personal Biography: I am somewhat new to the Plattsburgh area, relocating from Long Island, where I was born and raised. I graduated from John H. Glenn High School before receiving an athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland, where I graduated from in 2009 with a B.S. in Family Science and a Minor in Kinesiology, Sports Commerce and Culture. After a fantastic college experience, I moved back to Long Island and began working in the Fitness and Wellness industry. I then began recruiting for staffing agencies in the Long Island and NYC areas before finding my home at SUNY Plattsburgh. People often say "Oh my gosh, what a change!" but you'd be surprised how many similarities there are in Plattsburgh compared to Long Island. With the North Country lifestyle and touches from home, it makes SUNY Plattsburgh truly an amazing place to be. Plattsburgh has so much to offer in its cultural and social experiences; some of my favorite things to do are outdoor activities like hiking, biking and tubing as well as taking the ferry over to Burlington, VT for live music and shopping.
Most Memorable College Experience: Being part of the Women's Soccer team at UMD. As a member of the Athletic Coast Conference, I was able to play at one of the highest levels of college soccer while traveling the country and competing against some of the best athletes out there. I built amazing friendships that will last my lifetime, and I will never forget some of those experiences as a college-athlete. I will always be a Terp, but am a proud Cardinal too!
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activity: Being a sports fanatic, I love attending numerous sporting events on campus like men's and women's soccer, basketball and lacrosse games. I also love the student involvement in local events that include live music, fairs and festivals right downtown.
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Get involved. SUNY Plattsburgh has so many student groups and organizations - whether you play a sport, join Greek life, participate in music or theatre groups, etc., there is a group for everyone. College is a time to grow individually, and the people and activities you surround yourself with will have a major impact. Use these 4 years as an opportunity to build friendships, relationships and experiences that will last you a lifetime.
