- About Plattsburgh
Hey there! My name is Jessica Fish and I am a Senior Admissions Advisor at SUNY Plattsburgh. I have been working in the SUNY Plattsburgh admissions office for seven years and am the primary contact for the Capital District and out-of-state applicants. Although I wear many hats within the office, one of my biggest projects is managing our social media platforms. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or on one of our other social media sites to stay connected!
Additionally, I am happily serving as the SUNYCAP (State University of New York College Admissions Professionals) treasurer over the next two years and am excited to give back to our professional organization.
Hometown: Plattsburgh, NY
Professional/Personal Biography: I graduated locally from Beekmantown Central School in 2003; from Ithaca College with a B.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications and minors in Speech Communication and Women's Studies in 2007; and from SUNY Plattsburgh with an M.S. in Leadership in 2013. I am proud to finally call myself a SUNY Plattsburgh alumna!
When I am not working, I am enjoying life with my husband as a new home owner and a new "mom" to my bouncy, snuggly adopted pit bull mix named Java. I am also an avid bowler and a new vegan, so I spend quite a bit of time learning to "veganize" classic meals when I'm not hitting the lanes!
Most Memorable College Experience: Choreographing and dancing in "IC Unbound," my is my alma mater's dance company. I literally tried everything from hip hop to Irish clogging! I learned so many styles of expression, truly tested my creativity and met most of my best friends in the process.
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activity: Honestly, I like them all! Our students are constantly coming up with new activities for the campus community to take advantage of, and these offerings are always vetted through our student-run government - so they are 100 percent based on what the students want! Therefore, the energy behind each and every event will undoubtedly draw you in, no matter what it is!
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Be part of the conversation! Don't be afraid to speak up and give your opinion in class. Some of the biggest moments of personal and professional growth I have ever experienced came from having in-depth discussions with people who had differing points of view. I learned how to be a better listener and communicator. I changed many of my beliefs and the way I think about the world from those discussions, so don’t shy away from them.
