SUNY Online Academic Record (SOAR)

What is SOAR?

SUNY Online Academic Record (SOAR) is a web-based tool that allows you to submit your transcript information (i.e. your high school courses and grades), as well as your ACT and SAT test scores, electronically.  When you complete SOAR, your information is transmitted electronically; and you receive immediate confirmation that your academic record has been submitted. If you request a paper transcript, it will take significantly longer for SUNY campuses to receive and enter your information. (And it’s environmentally friendly!)

Steps to complete SOAR:

  1. Request a copy of your high school transcript from your school counselor.
  2. Notify your counselor that you will be submitting your transcript information online via SOAR (and that he/she does not need to send a transcript for the application review process).
  3. Use your unofficial high school transcript to complete SOAR (follow the instructions carefully).
  4. Submit your SOAR to SUNY Plattsburgh.
  5. SUNY Plattsburgh will review your application and notify you of a decision based on the information you submitted via SOAR.
  6. If you are accepted and decide to enroll, you will be required to submit a final, official transcript and/or official SAT/ACT score reports before enrolling at SUNY Plattsburgh.  Your academic record will be verified using your final, official transcript and score report(s).  Please note: Admission and/or scholarship offers may be rescinded if the final transcript and/or standardized test scores (SAT/ACT scores) reflect differently from the information reported via the initial SOAR transcript.

General FAQs

If I submit SOAR, do I still need to send in an official transcript?

Your transcript should not be sent at the time of application if you complete your academic record online. Once you are accepted and indicate your intent to enroll, an official final transcript must be sent from your high school to your campus.

What if a student falsifies his or her grades?

Any deliberate omission or falsification of information on SOAR will jeopardize a student’s chances for admission. Once a student is accepted and indicates his or her intent to enroll, an official final transcript must be sent from the high school to the campus for verification. In the course of verification, any deliberate omission or falsification will be revealed. Upon discovery of a deliberate omission or falsification of information, the campus has the right to deny admission or enrollment.

I am a transfer student. Should I complete SOAR?

Transfer students who have completed less than 24 college credits are strongly encouraged to complete SOAR. If you choose to complete your academic record online in order to speed the review process, please be aware that once you are accepted and indicate your intent to enroll, an official final transcript must be sent from your high school to your campus.

I am a home-schooled student. Should I complete SOAR?

Home schooled students are strongly encouraged to complete SOAR. You will have the option to select “I was home-schooled” on the high school information page. You may be required to provide additional information and documentation.

I am an adult learner and have been out of high school for a number of years. Should I complete SOAR?

SOAR is optional for students who are beginning college study after having been away from formal education for a period of time. If you choose to complete your academic record online in order to speed the review process, please be aware that once you are accepted and indicate your intent to enroll, an official final transcript must be sent from your high school to your campus.

I earned a GED. Should I complete SOAR?

No. Students who did not graduate high school, but who earned a General Equivalency Diploma, should submit their GED score reports and diplomas directly to the campus admissions office.

I applied using the Common Application. Can I complete SOAR?

Yes. Any student who applies online to a participating SUNY campus can complete SOAR, regardless of the type of application submitted.

Who should I contact if I have questions about SOAR?

Direct all questions regarding SOAR to the SUNY Recruitment Response Center.
