Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Definition of CPT

According to the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Curricular Practical Training (or, CPT) is defined “to be alternate work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required internship or practicum that is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school” [ 8 CFR 214.2 (f) (10) (i)]. This training must be an integral part of an established curriculum, related to the student’s field of study, appropriate for the student’s level of study, and authorized by the student’s International Student Advisor before the student begins his or her training.

Please Note: The Global Education Office (GEO) is currently in the process of revising our institutional policies regarding CPT for international students. Once revised, current information will be available here. If have any questions or need assistance with CPT, please contact Colby Foster in the GEO Office.
