Advanced Summer English Program
Registration in this program is by invitation only. Invited students have been accepted for enrollment in a bachelor's degree program at SUNY Plattsburgh for the upcoming fall semester. Program Dates
- Sunday, June 30, 2013 - Friday, August 9, 2013 (six weeks)
Program Features
- Excellent teachers with degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a related field.
- Program assistants that serve as tutors and conversation partners.
- Cross-cultural instruction focuses on adapting to university life.
- Emphasis on building advanced-level academic writing skills and speaking skills.
- Cultural, social, and recreational activities.
- Extra-curricular activities such as mini golf, bowling, and movies.
- Transportation provided for shopping and errands.
- Modern computer lab.
Classes
- English language skills: writing, reading, speaking, and listening.
- Classes are designed for advanced-intermediate and advanced-level students with results on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System as follows:
- TOEFL paper-based test: >= 475
- TOEFL internet-based test: >= 56
- Institutional TOEFL: >= 485
- IELTS: >=5.0
- Small classes students allow a lot of interaction with teachers.
- More than 20 hours of class time each week.
- Classes focus on improving language and academic study skills.
- Many resources such as DVD, videos, and readers available free to students.

Students who successfully complete the program will be enrolled in the following courses at SUNY Plattsburgh for the fall semester:
ENG100: College Writing I OR ENG101: College Writing II
AND
ESL106: Advanced Conversational English OR CMM101: Public Speaking
Therefore, if you successfully complete this program, you will make faster progress toward your bachelor’s degree at SUNY Plattsburgh.
