Graduate Assistantship Openings in the Division of Student Affairs, Fall 2008

Residence Director - 3 Anticipated Positions

The role of the Residence Director is that of a liaison between the Student Affairs Professional Staff, the Resident Assistants and resident students. The Residence Director serves as a behavior model offering assistance and direction to RAs and students. The Residence Director must be concerned with the growth and welfare of each individual and the group as a whole in order to assist students in adjustments to group living and campus life--providing emotional support and resources as necessary. The Residence Director assists in creating an atmosphere in the residence halls that is conducive to self-direction, academic achievement, social and cultural maturity, and self-discipline.

Community Service Programming

This position works closely with volunteer and service learning opportunities at Plattsburgh State. The Graduate Assistant will help oversee Project HELP, a student coordinated volunteer program, as well as assist with the planning and implementation of the Alternative Breaks program. The Assistant will also work closely with 15 Community Service Scholarship recipients, including arranging sites, following hours/experiences, and teaching a reflection seminar for the participants.

Angell College Center Operations

This position assists the Director and Assistant Director of the Angell College Center with the operation and staffing of the Information Desk. Responsibilities include: assists with recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of student staff members; assists with the accounting and documentation of the Information Desk operations; and assists with the reservation and set-ups of programmatic facilities in the College Center.

Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life

This Graduate Assistant will work with the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life to advise and support the individual groups and governing bodies that comprise the fraternity and sorority community on campus. This person will assist with the following activities: developing and implementing related workshops, retreats, speakers and/or conferences. In addition, this person will assist with the development and design of web sites, publicity, brochures, and newsletters for the operation; and assessment of fraternity and sorority related programs.
