Graduate Assistantship Opening in Literacy Education and Services
This position provides a tuition scholarship (up to $6,900) and a stipend of $5,320 for the 2008-2009 academic year. It requires a 20-hour-per-week commitment. The graduate assistant will report to the Chair of the Literacy Education Department.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tutorial services in the subject of writing as it pertains to the professional development of undergraduates in our course EDU330 Exploring Educational Issues through Writing.
- Design and actively participate (after IRB approval) in original research projects aimed toward the enhancement of teacher preparation and the documentation of student growth in the profession of teaching.
- Take part in the process of the redesign of our M.S.Ed. Literacy program by providing a student's perspective and by investigating information available on the Web as it pertains to teacher preparation and to the new responsibilities of literacy coaches.
- Assist the faculty of the Department of Literacy Education and other faculty in our division and unit with projects that arise as we redesign and begin to deliver new programs and courses as part of the accreditation process.
- Assist the director of the Literacy Education Center with an anticipated expansion of services provided to students, faculty, and community.
- Assist faculty and staff in the maintenance of our program's Web site and of their individual Web sites.
Qualifications:
- Matriculation in the M.S.Ed. Literacy program at SUNY Plattsburgh
- Take and pass the CITI certification before undertaking any research activities
- Excellent writing skills
- High proficiency with educational technology
