Graduate Assistantship Openings in the Career Development Center

Both positions are filled for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Career Development Center is pleased to offer the following NEW assistantship opportunities for the 2013-2014 academic year. Each position provides a full tuition scholarship (in-state rate) and a stipend of $6,000.

Career Outreach Coordinator

This position plays an integral role in the programming and outreach efforts of the Career Development Center. S/he will work closely with the Director of the Career Development Center to implement a comprehensive array of career workshops as well as unique programs for campus partners.  S/he will also assist with development of the “Career Lab” to provide direct support to students in their career exploration and search processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Become an involved team member in all aspects of the programs and services offered by the Career Development Center.
  • During the academic year, maintain 20 office hours each week, including evening and weekend hours, as needed.
  • Conduct career-related workshops as well as presentations to residence halls, student organizations and academic classrooms.
  • Provide support to CDC events such as Career Night, workshops and other events.
  • Counsel students on topics related to career exploration, job/internship search and applying to graduate school.
  • Assist students with identifying relevant materials in the Career Resource Library.
  • Conduct general resume and cover letter critiques for students.
  • Assist with management of  and programming within the newly designed “Career Lab” space in the Angell College Center.
  • Contribute to the marketing and promotion of CDC programs and services

Qualifications:

  • Matriculated graduate student at SUNY Plattsburgh in good academic standing (recommend GPA of 3.0 or higher; first semester Graduate Students ARE eligible).
  • Extensive group and leadership experience.Experience with developing and making presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Capable of accomplishing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication and time management skills.
  • Positive, polished and professional attitude.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.

Career Technology Coordinator

This position plays an integral role in implementing and marketing an array of new web-based career resources for students (and potentially alumni).  S/he will work closely with the Director of the Career Development Center to market these resources to campus stakeholders and to help educate students on how to effectively use these resources. S/he will also assist with development of the “Career Lab” to provide direct support to students in their career exploration and search processes. Finally, this person will help support efforts to track post-graduate experiences of alumni.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain 20 office hours each week, including evening and weekend hours, as needed.
