Theatre Faculty — L.J. Schwartau

Adjunct Lecturer

Laura Jean teaches Introduction to Acting, Introduction to Theatre, Plays and Rehearsal, and Acting II. She was the director of the "smash hit musicals" Chicago in '95 and Anything Goes in '97. Unfortunately she won't be directing anytime soon because of her three adorable little boys.

L.J. is a SUNY Plattsburgh alumna, then went on to finish her schooling at the University of Minnesota where she attained her B.F.A. At 22 years old, she taught three acting classes for the theater department as a graduate associate of the U of M. After the mid-west, she was New York City bound for acting. L.J. has appeared in several off-Broadway productions, Cabaret performances, and off-Broadway at Soho Repertory and the Vortex Theatre, where she directed. She also has TV and small roles in independent films to her credit, but her real love is stage work. She was a private acting coach in New York City as well as continued teaching in colleges around the New York City area.

After New York City and the big city, L.J. returned home to the Adirondacks in the '90's to take over a summer run family business--Northbrook Lodge in Paul Smiths. She is now a Company member of the Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, having done 12 seasons with them acting and directing. Favorite roles include; Puck in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Winifred in Once Upon A Mattress, The Narrator in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Natalia in Tom Stoppard's Rough Crossing, and Miss Proserpine in Minneapolis' The Guthrie Theatre's production of G.B. Shaw's Candida. L.J. is a member of the Actors Equity Association and S.A.G. (Screen Actors Guild).
