Study Abroad and Exchanges - Student Profiles

We love to hear from our students!

Please send us a picture and tell us what you have been up to! Unfortunately, we don't get to go with you to see what you are experiencing. But, we still like to know!! Other students considering studying abroad also like to know how other students' experiences have been, and who's out there! Here are just a few...

Turkish Language & Culture, Summer 2006

This photo is a group shot of the Turkish Language and Culture class in front of Dolmabahce Palace. Dolmabahce Palace was built between 1842-1853 and was used by the last of the Ottoman Sultans and later Ataturk. Both Ataturk and the final Ottoman Sultans sought to emulate Europe as a way to save and modernize the Ottoman Empire and later the nation of Turkey. The inside of Dolmabache Palace is similar to many European palaces from the 17th-19th century and is just one of the cultural sites we visited in Turkey.

Fall 2005 - Sustainable Development and Cultural Studies Oaxaca, Mexico
Major: Elementary Spanish Education

"This program I can whole-heartedly say is like no other. In this program we took intensive Spanish classes and sustainable development the first six weeks. Great professors. I was given the choice to live with my host family during my whole stay so my Spanish improved tremendously. We went a dozen different educational field trips where we learned so much about the culture and customs of the indigenous people in the communities, learned about sustainable development in the working, ecotourism, historical influences in Oaxaca, etc."

Academic Year 2005-06 - University of Central Lancashire, England
Major: English

"Studying abroad has been the most wonderful and fulfilling decision I could have made and I would highly recommend it to any student even considering it."

Dave Wagner

Fall 2005 - University of Central Lancashire, England
Major: Business Administration

"Studying abroad was amazing. I really liked the city of Preston. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't the middle of nowhere either. The school also organizes lots of trips around the UK and Europe. The International society does trips around UK to places of interest like Leeds, Chester, London, Edinburgh, etc. The film society organizes big weekend trips around Europe to places like Amsterdam, Paris, London, Dublin, and Barcelona. While there we traveled to Glasgow, Amsterdam, and went to Italy for a week and half (I flew home from Milan after I stayed with a friend there). I also went to a bunch of soccer games while there as that was one of the reasons I went to England. Overall an amazing time and I can't wait to go back."

Matt Simeti

Fall 2005 - National Outdoor Leadership School, United States
Major: Expeditionary Studies

"I stayed in the States taking a semester course at the National Outdoor Leadership School. For three months me and a group of 15 others traveled throughout the western United States Going Mountaineering in Wyoming, Paddling on the Green River in Utah, Climbing at Red Rocks Nevada, and finally exploring the canyons of southeastern Utah. Overall it was a once in a lifetime experience. I would recommend a NOLS course to anyone interested."
