Internships at University of New South Wales (UNSW)

Why UNSW?

UNSW is one of Australia's and the world's most recognized research and teaching universities. With more than 900 undergrad and grad programs, students from over 120 different countries, and its location in Sydney (a vibrant cosmopolitan beachfront city), you will have the opportunity to study at a prestigious international institution in a world-class location.

How to Apply

You must submit the SUNY Application and the UNSW Internship Application to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines stated in the above section. If you would like to take courses at UNSW and intern, then also need to fill out the UNSW Study Abroad Application. You may download these forms from our website, or may e-mail us at globaleducation@plattsburgh.edu to request copies. (Note: the 83.5kb SUNY Application PDF requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download. )

Internships

In addition to studying at UNSW, you can apply for internships through UNSW that take place while you study. UNSW also offers you the opportunity to intern for full-time credit for a period of eight weeks, though you cannot take courses simultaneously with this option. You earn academic credit for your internship, and are not paid. The costs for interning are the same as for taking courses. If you would like to participate in an internship, you need to submit an additional internship application available on our website.

Courses at UNSW

Most students take four courses while at UNSW, though you should list as many as eight courses you would like to take on your application in case some are full or unavailable. To view UNSW's courses, please visit the UNSW website.

Accommodations

You reserve and pay for housing directly with UNSW in Australian dollars. SUNY Plattsburgh will tell you what to do after you have been accepted. There is a $500 (Australian) deposit required at the time of reservation. There are two types of accommodations at UNSW on-campus and off-campus. HOWEVER, these terms mean the opposite of what they mean in the US. UNSW owns and maintains the off-campus housing, and private companies own and maintain the on-campus housing. Most study abroad students choose the off-campus housing due to its proximity to the beach. You must buy your own groceries and cook for yourself, as UNSW does not have US American style meal plans. For more information on UNSW accommodations, please visit the UNSW website.

Location

Sydney is Australia's largest city with a population of slightly more than 4 million. It is also known worldwide to be very cosmopolitan and home to a variety of subcultures. Remember that when it is winter here, it is summer there and vice versa. However, do not pack your snow shoes because the climate is moderate in the winter and hot in the summer!
