Why SJIU?

St. John International University is a new university designed for international students who would like to spend a summer, semester or year studying in Italy. SJIU offers a variety of courses in English in subject areas such as art history, architecture, studio art, political science, business and economics, history, humanities, and modern languages and literature

How to Apply

You must submit the SUNY Application and the SJIU Application by the deadline given in the above section. You only need to pay the $35 application fee for SUNY Plattsburgh, and do not need to pay an application fee for SJIU. (Note: the 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download. )

Courses at SJIU

For the semester program, you must take at least one Italian language course, and then may choose the rest of your courses from SJIU's courses offered in English. SJIU requires that you take minimum of 12 credits per semester. For the summer program, you must take at least one Italian language course; and then may choose another course offered in English. SJIU requires that you take 6 credits per 5 week summer session.

Accommodations

The Semester Abroad Fee that you pay to SUNY Plattsburgh includes housing in traditional apartments of, usually, three to four students with two beds in each bedroom. The apartments are located in and around the city center, and are no more than a short bus ride from school.  While SJIU may offer other hosuing options, the SUNY price only includes this option.  If you want another option, then you will have to pay whatever the difference is to SJIU directly.

All the apartments are furnished including bed linens and towels. Kitchens are equipped with basic utilities and supplies for cooking (kitchen appliances, pots and pans, etc.). Please note that there is no meal plan available as you are accustomed to having in the United States, and that you will have to buy your own food in grocery stores and cook for yourself. SJIU, not SUNY Plattsburgh, coordinates housing arrangements on its campus.

Location

Turin is one of Italy's largest cities, located in the northwestern part close to the French and Swiss borders. Most recently, Turin was in the international spotlight when it hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics; however, the city has been an important world destination for many centuries. By studying in Turin, you will have easy access to Italy's other main cities (Rome, Florence, Milan, Venice), as well as other European countries such as Austria, France, Spain, Switzerland, and Germany.
