Why UCLAN?
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) is a unique blend of the historic and the hi-tech. Its proud history and traditions, dating back to 1828, can be traced through its impressive architecture. Approximately 22,000 students attend UCLAN. The University offers an extensive range of academic programs.
UCLAN's Preston campus is a modern green oasis in the heart of England's newest city. Getting about is easy - the bus and train stations are a short-walk from campus, which has a compact, friendly feel.
- Terms:
Fall (September thru January*) and Spring (January thru May)
- *Please note that for the fall semester, you can make arrangements with professors for most courses to complete your coursework before Christmas or by correspondence so that you can return in time for Christmas and the start of our Spring Semester.
- Eligibility: open to SUNY Plattsburgh students only; minimum 2.8 GPA; minimum sophomore standing by the time of study in England
- Credits: 15-20 undergraduate per semester

How to Apply
You must submit both the SUNY Application and the UCLAN Application (e-mail us to request a copy) to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines stated in the above section. (Note: the 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download. )
Courses at UCLAN
In England, courses are called "modules," and "courses" often mean the same thing as "majors" in the US. Unfortunately, UCLAN does not publish its modules and their descriptions online. You must e-mail the Global Education Office for an electronic copy of the UCLAN module catalog.
Accommodations
You will pay for your accommodations directly to UCLAN shortly after you arrive. You should note that UCLAN does not offer students formal meals plans as you are accustomed to receiving in the US. Their accommodations feature shared kitchen facilities where you can store and prepare your own food. There are also restaurants on campus where you may purchase meals and pay for them each time you dine there. Location
The large population of UCLAN students has turned Preston into an energetic city with a buzzing nightlife and a growing arts scene, surrounded by pubs, clubs, and eateries that provide worldwide cuisine to cater for every palette. There's a range of entertainment venues, including the Guild Hall and Charter Theatre, providing year round entertainment, such as major sporting events, ballet, drama, concerts and much more.
2009 Program Cost Estimates Per Semester:
- New York State Residents: $8,957
- Non-New York State Residents: $12,087
- Includes:
- Application fee : $35 due when you apply
- Deposit: $350 due several weeks after accepted
- SUNY Tuition: $2175 for NYS residents and $5305 for non-NYS residents
- Room and Board: estimated $6000 per semester
- Health Insurance: $397 for all students

Please note: You will pay your Application Fee, Deposit, SUNY tuition, and Health Insurance to SUNY before you leave. You will pay for your room and board in your host country.
Other costs you will have to participate in this program:
- Roundtrip Airfare: fares vary drastically
- England Entry Clearance/Visa: University of Central Lancashire £99/estimated $200 US (Required for US citizens studying six months or longer in the UK, or for all students who would like to study full time and have a part-time job for any period of time).
- Passport: US passports currently cost $110.
