Why Chester?
SUNY Plattsburgh has had a relationship with Chester for more than twenty years, and it remains a popular destination amongst our students. Chester offers a variety of academic programs, including art, biology, business, computer science, criminology, drama and theater, education, English literature, environmental science, food and nutrition, geography, history, languages, literature and film, nursing, physical education and sports science, psychology, sociology, theology and religious studies, and tourism management.
- Terms: Most of Chester's courses last the entire academic year, and they prefer that you plan to come for the year for this reason. However, there are a limited number of single semester courses available too that may work for certain students who want to study for only one semester.
- Eligibility: open to SUNY Plattsburgh students only; minimum 2.8 GPA; minimum sophomore standing by the time of study in England
- Credits: 12-16 undergraduate per semester
- Application Deadlines: March 15 for Fall and October 1 for Spring
How to Apply
You must submit both the SUNY Application and Chester Application (e-mail us for a copy) to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines given in the above section. (Note: the 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download. )

Accommodations
You will pay for your accommodations directly to Chester shortly after you arrive. Chester has three types of accommodations, though availability is based on a first-come basis. They are catered, semi-carted, and uncatered. "Catered" means that there is a meal plan, "self-catered" means that there are cooking facilities on site, and "semi-catered" means that you would only purchase part of a meal plan and do some cooking for yourself onsite. For more information, please visit Chester's Accommodations website.
Location
The City of Chester has a rich and fascinating history, from its beginnings as a Roman fortress 2000 years ago to the vibrant modern city of today. Popular attractions include the city walls and gates, the Cross (where four Roman streets converge and the Town Crier delivers proclamations), the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain, Roman Gardens, the magnificent Cathedral, the unique Tudor Rows (covered galleries of shops), the Eastgate Clock and the River Dee.
