Sports and Wellness Program at SUNY Plattsburgh
Plattsburgh State emphasizes wellness, fitness and lifelong activity
The Physical Education Elective Program
offers courses that emphasize physical fitness, wellness, and skills in lifetime leisure activities. Courses are also offered to students who enjoy the outdoors in kayaking, rock & ice climbing and skiing. American Red Cross certification courses give students the necessary certification in C.P.R., First Aid Lifeguard Training and instructor courses for employment opportunities.
Our two minors offer students the opportunity to combine with their major either an area of study in coaching, personal trainer or outdoor studies.
- The Athletic Coaching minor meets New York State requirements to coach youth programs and school teams.
- The Personal Trainer minor provides for a course of study to prepare students to take a personal trainer certification program offered once a year on our campus.
In addition to the academic programs we offer, the Department of Sport and Wellness administers a wide variety of student life recreational sports and fitness programs, non-credit programs in C.P.R., First Aid and Lifeguard Training and supervises the athletic facilities on campus. The Department is also one of the largest employers of students on campus.
