About the Psychology Major
The Psychology Major aims to develop students' appreciation for the application of scientific thinking and methodology, to foster mastery and integration of content within and across the subfields of psychology, to encourage application of psychological theory and practice, and to provide rigorous academic preparation that includes a wide range of experiences, both scholarly and practical.
The Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology requires 41 academic credits of course work. The major provieds broad coverage of the major areas in psychology as well as more focused coverage of specific areas of interest. These include an introductory course and an introductory lab, courses in experimental design and statistics, several courses surveying the content of the different disciplines within psychology, a junior seminar, and three upper-level courses with more in-depth focus on particular psychology disciplines. Students are also encouraged to gain practical experience by becoming involved in research apprenticeships, teaching apprenticeships, and fieldwork/internships.
