Northcountry Planetarium Staff – Glenn Myer

Dr. Glenn Myer is originally from Saugerties, New York. After graduating from Kingston High School he attended Alfred University and later graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh. After teaching in middle school and doing research for a pharmaceutical laboratory he continued his formal education at SUNY Albany receiving a M.S. in atmospheric physics and a Ph.D. in fluid dynamics/physical limnology.

Dr. Myer joined the faculty of SUNY Plattsburgh in the spring of 1971 as a member of the physics department. As the college grew and diversified Dr. Myer served as a member of the physics, geology, environmental science, and computer science departments. He has also served as director of the SUNY Northcountry Planetarium for more than 35 years.

Dr. Myer’s interests include turbulence theory, fluid mechanics as applied to natural systems, numeric modeling of natural systems, amateur astronomy, ancient Egyptian language and history, and tinkering with computers and their software. In his spare time he enjoys having adventures in Great Britain, Iceland, the Caribbean, and wherever opportunity takes him.
