Physics Faculty - Mr. John W. Porter

Physics Laboratory Instructor

Born in Norfolk, Va, I am the son of a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and stepson of a retired U.S. Marine.

I graduated from Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona. I served active/reserve in the U.S. Navy; while in the reserve I was employed full time as a civilian with the U.S. Air Force at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, New York, primarily in the field of Communications/Electronics. I received a Associates Degree from Clinton Community College and later a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Plattsburgh State in 2002.

My technical interests are Climate Change, Electronics and all areas of Math/Science.

At Plattsburgh State I manage/operate a 4GHZ Radio Telescope currently used to make daily Sun transit observations. My technical expertise has centered primarily around Electronics/Communications. I hold an amateur radio advanced class license (WA2WHJ) and an FCC General Radio Telephone License with Ship Radar Endorsement.

I am a member of the American Geophysical Union, American Physical Society, American Radio Relay League, Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Fleet Reserve Association, Air Force Association, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association.

When I am not involved in technical activities I enjoy jogging and discussing current affairs. I have two sons, Rob, a Clarkson Graduate, and Chris, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Oh yes, and one super grandchild.
