Preparation for the Profession of NursingThe SUNY Plattsburgh Baccalaureate Nursing Program prepares individuals to enter the multifaceted field of professional nursing. Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare team assuring frontline safety and quality care. Nurses are advocates, educators, and counselors, in addition to providing direct client care.
The Department of Nursing has energetic, creative faculty members who challenge each student to reach maximal potential. With small class sizes, each student can receive individual attention, enhancing development as a nurse and a scholar.
The Damianos Nursing Skills Laboratory provides a state-of-the-art learning environment, well equipped to prepare the student for real-life situations. Our innovative simulation laboratory provides an element of realism within a safe atmosphere. In addition to skill building in the nursing skills lab, students provide hands-on client care in a variety of today’s health care settings. Nursing students who are preparing for registered nurse licensure begin clinical practice in their sophomore year in order to maximize early exposure to the profession.
We prepare students to become excellent professional nurses capable of meeting the dynamic health care needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities.
SUNY Plattsburgh has two nursing programs. The first is for individuals who wish to become registered nurses (RNs). This program takes approximately four years of full-time study. The second program is for registered nurses who wish to continue their education. Both programs lead to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Nursing.
