Sophie Bjerke has been a member of the music faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh since 1999. She is a former examiner with the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, and is a founding Center Representative for the National Music Certificate Program (U.S.A.).
Prof. Bjerke has performed in solo/ensemble concerts with Pro Musica Society of Vancouver, The Early Music Society of Vancouver, and PEI's Confederation Centre Concert Ensemble. Her special interest in new or forgotten music resulted in several premières, including the North American première of compositions from WWII, sponsored by the Polish-Jewish Foundation of Montreal. She was featured soloist in a documentary on The Leonardo Project (Concordia University, Montreal), where she completed her graduate diploma in advanced music performance studies in science, music, and human potential. More recently, Ms. Bjerke has performed in and Chazy Music Theatre's productions of The King and I (Lady Thiang); Beauty and the Beast (Wardrobe); and was vocal director for West Side Story and The Drowsy Chaperone.
Prof. Bjerke currently teaches Voice Class and Applied Voice.
