The SUNY Plattsburgh Music Program, through its many academic offerings, concerts, performance opportunities and lectures, provides experience, training, and guidance for scholars, performers, and listeners alike.
Students in all majors can choose from a wide range of courses that include music technology, jazz, world music, and Western classical traditions.
All students at any level of experience from beginner to advanced may join a performing ensemble, some which base membership on individual auditions. Applied study on a musical instrument or voice is offered in the form of group classes for beginners and private lessons for intermediate or advanced students, based on audition.
More than 30 annual music events on campus feature student ensembles, guest artists, and student/faculty recitals.
Even someone with no prior experience in music can learn to read music, play an instrument, study the masterworks of music literature, or simply enjoy hearing something new.
