Marketing Faculty - Robert E. Rathbun, Jr.

Adjunct Professor

Mr. Rathbun Rathbun joined the School of Business & Economics adjunct faculty in the Spring of 1999. Currently Mr. Rathbun is filling in full-time for Dr. John O'Hara, teaching 3 sections of Principles of Marketing.

A 1977 graduate of McGill University with a B.A. in English Literature, and a minor in French Literature, Mr. Rathbun also obtained his M.B.A. from SUNY Albany in 1990 with a concentration in marketing. In addition to his university degrees, he is a 1996 graduate of the College for Financial Planning, located in Denver, Colorado. He holds the professional designation of Certified financial Planner.

Mr. Rathbun has been very active in the Plattsburgh community since his return to the area in 1985 from New York City. He has been involved in the retail business community over the last 20 years as a business owner, financial services registered representative and chief financial officer.

He brings a wide variety of experience to the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He has owned and managed restaurants in New York City, Boston, Albany and Plattsburgh. He has managed clients' finances for PaineWebber (now UBS Securities), Kinneston Associates and Homebound Mortgage. Mr. Rathbun has served the interests of taxpayers through his position as Chief Financial Officer of Behavioral Health Services North (formerly the Northern New York Center) from 1997 through 2002.

Within the community he has been very active as the Scoutmaster for Troop 39, Plattsburgh, Boy Scouts of America over the past 6 years. He has guided his scouts to trips to the National Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico and the National Sea Base Facility in Isle Lamorada, Floida Keys, Florida. A soccer coach for many years for the Plattsburgh Youth Soccer program and dedicated New York Yankee fan, Mr. Rathbun is enthusiastic in all his commitments to guiding and teaching.
