- About Plattsburgh
Through a partnership with SUNY Plattsburgh's First-Year Experience and Retention Efforts, the Claude J. Clark Learning Center began the Distinguished Faculty Fellows Program in Spring 2006. Each semester, two faculty members - one from the Math Department and another from Biology , Chemistry , Earth and Environmental Sciences , or Physics - are in residence in the Learning Center and share their content expertise with our tutors. These content areas combined constitute our largest request for tutoring. The strong partnership between the Distinguished Faculty Fellows and the Learning Center's Professional Staff foster a strong foundation of both tutoring strategies and content knowledge for our tutors in these subjects.
Each Distinguished Faculty Fellows is awarded one course load reduction equivalent to a three credit course or the equivalent stipend amount. Such recognition can only be applied to the semester the faculty member is "in residence" in the Learning Center. The six-nine hours a week spent in the Learning Center focus on strengthening the tutors through individual and small group meetings, organizing appropriate content specific support material (training materials, syllabi, study guides, web sites, etc.), and recruiting new tutors in the faculty member's content area. In addition, it is our hope that by working with the professional staff of the Learning Center, Distinguished Faculty Fellows will identify new strategies to increase faculty and student support, as well as awareness and usage of the Learning Center.
The Distinguished Faculty Fellowship is open to all faculty members with the Math and Sciences Departments.
Interested faculty members should contact Karin Killough, Director of the Learning Center by calling (518) 564-6138 or directly e-mailing her at email@example.com .
In addition, our previous Distinguished Faculty Fellows are listed below and would be an excellent resource for faculty members considering applying for the position.
