Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Leadership Concentration
The Leadership Concentration Allows You To:
- Advance in your career area of choice whether it is in public service, non-profit, or business organizations.
- Use the expertise and wealth of knowledge from your work and life experiences in your courses.
- Immediately gain new ideas, skills, and competencies that you can apply in practical ways to your work and life environment.
- Take classes in a variety of modes--electronic, face-to-face, and simulcast--flexibility that lets you maintain your work and family schedules while earning your degree.
Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) Leadership Concentration (33 credits)
The Core Courses in Leadership
The Leadership program of study includes a core of required courses that invite you into learning experiences focused on the individual as leader, high performance competencies for individuals in team oriented organizational cultures, and organizational development and change. Students have a choice of three minor areas of study that support career paths in non-profit organizations, finance, and general management. The graduate course of study is culminated with a Thesis or Professional Project which demonstrates the student's skill and knowledge in leadership, integrating professional and academic competence in the field of organizational leadership.
Minor Concentrations
To enhance your ability to pursue a career path, the following minor concentrations have been designed to focus study on specific skill sets and knowledge in three areas:
- Leadership Policy is the minor of choice for those looking at careers in public service or non-profit organizations.
- Leadership Tools: If you are seeking a generalist position in which you will be dealing with day-to-day operations of a small to mid-size business or start-up company, the Leadership Tools minor provides you with the essentials for running a successful business.
- Fiduciary Leadership: If your aspiration is to become a chief financial officer in any type of organization, Fiduciary Leadership provides the legal fundamentals and practical tools for dealing with financial planning and fiscal operations in organizations of any size and complexity. The Fiduciary Leadership minor requires an undergraduate degree in accounting or equivalent accounting background.
