Lake Champlain Research Institute at SUNY Plattsburgh
Who We Are
The primary objective of the Lake Champlain Research Institute (LCRI) is to promote student research. Current affiliate activities include biological, physical, economic, historical and education research.
The Institute is actively involved in research in the Lake Champlain Basin that results in a better understanding of regional natural resources and provides reliable scientific information to environmental decision makers.
What We Do
LCRI exists to provide students a research experience as part of their career preparation. Students conducting research with LCRI affiliates often go on to present their findings at annual events on campus, such as the Sigma Xi student symposium, or at scientific meetings, such as the Ecological Society of America, Northeast Chapter of the Geological Society of America, the North American Benthological Society and others.
LCRI involves qualified students as research assistants on funded projects. These are exciting opportunities for students to participate in LCRI activities using state-of-the-art equipment and serving as a springboard to successful careers.
The Institute is establishing a database of research findings. We will cooperate with the academic departments at SUNY Plattsburgh and other institutions to provide field and laboratory research and educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. We will also sponsor workshops and courses to provide educational opportunities for K-12 educators, students, and other interested parties in the region.
