Get Involved!
Honors Student Association activities are often highly anticipated annual events. Here is a sampling of the activities the HSA has organized in recent years.
- Welcome (Back) Reception for new and returning students, faculty and staff
- Fall Hike and BBQ with an occasional overnight stay in Doc's lean-to
- Trips to Montreal for dinner, dancing, and cultural events
- Apple/Pumpkin picking
- Halloween Costume Parties (we even had a pumpkin pinata last year!)
- Last Lecture Series (a professor is invited to lecture as if it were the last lecture of her/his career)
- Semi-Formal Winter Banquet including dinner and dancing, as well as faculty and staff appreciation awards
- Winter Frolic including sledding, hot cocoa, a bonfire, and games
- Attendance at the annual conferences of the Northeast Region of the National Collegiate Honors Council
- Spring Picnic and BBQ, famous for the annual faculty/student softball game, at Point Au Roche State Park
In addition, the HSA participates in community service activities and conducts fundraisers throughout the year. Fundraisers have included a bottle drive, a book drive and sale, t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps, boxer shorts, and the "Doc for a Day" raffle. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to switch places with an Honors Director for a day? We did. So we came up with a raffle with the lucky winner running the office for a day while Dr. Mowry, our Director, attended the student's classes.
The Honors Student Association keeps close ties with many of its Alumni. In the past alums have returned to talk to current students about their experiences in graduate school and in their career fields. We recently held the first Honors Program Homecoming Reception during the college's Alumni Weekend. It was an overwhelming success with a large number of alums returning to share stories with fellow alums, current students, and faculty.
