Phi Alpha Theta
Plattsburgh State's Alpha Gamma Alpha Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society "whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among Historians. We seek to bring students, teachers, and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist publication in a variety of ways." Requirements for membership are at least 12 credit hours completed in history classes, a GPA of 3.1 or higher in history classes, and a 3.0 or higher overall GPA. You do not need to be a history major or minor to belong to Phi Alpha Theta. Members receive a personalized certificate during an initiation ceremony and are entitled to wear a Phi Alpha Theta honor cord or sash during commencement exercises.
