Geographers obtain their basic data from field investigation, in environments that range from wilderness area to cities.

As scientists, geographers are naturally curious about how the world is arranged. They ask lots of questions about why things are located the way they are and then they try to answer those questions.

Extensive Field Work

Several upper level courses involve visiting sites in the Adirondack Mountains and Champlain Valley, and the small size of these courses allows for a great deal of individual attention. Learn more about field work opportunities.

Computer Applications in Geography

The program offers use of several computer applications in geography and a completely dedicated GIS lab with 18 work stations, various printers, plotters, digitizers, and scanners. Learn more about the use of computers in geography.

A Planning Specialization

Plattsburgh State is one of the few schools that offers a planning minor in New York State. A planning specialization can be accomplished by taking certain planning courses or by completing the planning minor. Learn more about our planning specialization in geography.
