Conversation Parners Program
Have Fun While Improving Your Conversation Skills
As you begin your studies as an English Bridge Program student at Plattsburgh State University, you will encounter a new academic setting, a new culture, and a relatively new language. Even though English Bridge Program (E.B.P.) students find themselves immersed in an English speaking world, they have the natural tendency to make friends and spend time with students from their home countries. This unfortunately slows down language learning a great deal. In addition, many students come from countries where they have studied English for many years, but have not had the opportunity to practice conversational skills. Thus, many of our current students have requested extra practice in conversational English. This year, American students who are education majors will serve as conversation partners for English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) students in Plattsburgh State's English Bridge Program.
What exactly is involved?
You will meet with an American students once a week for an informal conversation--you could talk about a movie you just saw, about your families, interests, goals, or play a popular board game. No matter what you talk about, it should be fun and stimulating for you and your partner.
What are the benefits?
You will be able to practice conversational English with an American student and will improve speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills in a natural, informal setting on campus. The experience should also be just plain fun and stimulating as you learn about another culture that has different perspective on life. In addition, you may make a life-long friend from the United States.
